
ARRESTED while gambling at a cemetery in Ubon Ratchathani province on New Year’s Eve were 12 participants with many others having managed to escape when police and officials showed up, Sanook.com said today (Jan. 1).
Provincial governor Mr. Pongrat Piromrat took action after complaints from residents that there was a big gambling session at the cemetery in Si Suk sub-district, Khueang Nai district.
He sent two senior officials to accompany 10 policemen in mounting a raid at the cemetery but as soon as they showed up a large number of gamblers managed to flee with 12 others, four men and eight women, who failed to do so being rounded up.
Seized from them were some gambing material, cash and 98 methamphetamine pills.
All were charged with illegal gambling and violating the emergency decree.
