Phuket and Phang Nga badly flooded after torrential rain

BOTH Phuket and Phang Nga were hit by flash floods upon being lashed by torrential rain today (Oct. 16) as a result of a monsoon trough moving across the central southern region, Amarin TV said.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said this monsoon trough has triggered continuous rain in the South.

So far floods and forest runoffs have hit three Phuket districts, Thalang, Mueang and Kathu, while Phang Nga’s Takua Pa district is badly flooded.

However the floodwater level had dropped with officials and relevant agencies having installed water pumps to continuously accelerate drainage from the affected areas. They are also helping people going through flooded roads.
