Thaksin foresees change of government in second half

FORMER prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra said yesterday (Jan. 3) that Thailand will likely get a new government in the second half of this year and although this will be a tough year for Thai people things should change in the latter half, Amarin TV said today.

In an interview with Theroom44channel.com the former premier said Thai people face higher inflation and interest rates this year with this driving up the cost of living while urging all to be patient as things should improve in the second half.

He said that there are several factors propelling a change of government. A key one is the current government not being able to solve the people’s problems.

He added that this is because they come from the civil service with good welfare, namely the military. They think people too have good welfare but actually they have to struggle from day to day.

Thaksin pointed out that no matter how much money is distributed to the people it is never going to be enough.

The second factor he mentioned is that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will be completing eight years at the helm this year and according to the intention of the drafters (of the constitution) they do not want anyone to remain in this position longer than that.
