Military training chopper crashes, two dead

A MILITARY TRAINING HELICOPTER crashed in Nakhon Sawan province at 9.35 a.m. this morning (Dec. 14) with the flight instructor and the pilot dying immediately after it plunged to earth, Amarin TV and Siam Rath newspaper said.

The helicopter, made by the Chinese Enstrom Helicopter Corporation, crashed at the post office in front of Chiraprawat camp in this province after taking off from Lopburi Royal Thai Army Aviation Centre.

It had burst in flames upon hitting the ground with the impact breaking it into pieces. The provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office team used 5,000 litres of water to put out the blaze which has now been controlled.

Soldiers, policemen and rescue volunteers have cordoned off the area surrounding the crash and have started collecting the debris for urgent inspection.

On Dec. 3 an Air Force F-5 TH Super Tigris fighter had crash-landed in Lopburi province seconds after the pilot jettisoned to safety but breaking an arm and a leg.
