2 held in seizure of large cache of weapons in Kanchanaburi

A RAID on a resort in Kanchanaburi province led to the seizure of 111 homemade pistols and war weapons as well as 1,320 rounds of ammunition of various calibre with a couple who claimed to be the caretakers of the premises being arrested, Thai Rath newspaper said this evening (Nov. 21).

Provincial Police Region 7 Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Thanayut Wutthijarathamrong said the raid was mounted as part of an anti-crime drive ahead of the Nov. 28 election of Tambon Administration Organisation councillors and chairmen with focus on seizing illegal weapons.

Regional and local police raided Raiphonsom Resort under a search warrant issued by Kanchanaburi Provincial Court where aside from the weapons were found drill stands, electric drills and grinding stones as well as other equipment to repair and modify many more firearms.

Arrested were Mr. Rangsan Wandee, 44, and Ms. Pattaraporn Timrod, 42, who appeared to be the caretakers of the resort. They confessed to a charge of possession of firearms without permit and were taken to the police station for further question.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thanayut said although some of the firearms were rusted all were still usable and in the hands of criminals could lead to serious crime.

Police are further investigating where these weapons came from and who the buyers are.
