Prawit opens door to former senior official, police chief

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PALANG PRACHARATH Party leader Prawit Wongsuwan today (Nov. 8) confirmed a former undersecretary of interior and a former police chief will certainly be welcome to join the largest coalition partner in government.

Prawit who concurrently performs as deputy prime minister referred to Chatchai Promlert who retired from the post of undersecretary of interior last month and Chakthip Chaijinda who retired from the post of police chief last year.

Prawit said he has not as yet been officially informed of reported plans for Chatchai and Chakthip to join his party but assured they both will definitely be welcome aboard.

Chatchai and Chakthip are currently speculated to join Palang Pracharath Party with the likelihood of contesting the next general election under the tickets of Prawit’s camp.

Chatchai is viewed as personally close to Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda who is invariably associated with Prawit. The former undersecretary was earlier speculated to launch a brand new party of his own to contest the election nationwide.

Chakthip recently decided to opt out of Bangkok’s gubernatorial election tentatively scheduled for early next year to give way for incumbent Governor Aswin Kwanmuang who is apparently seeking to prolong his rule.
