AN ONLINE signature campaign launched yesterday (Nov. 5) and supported by Progressive Movement chairman Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit to petition for the abolition of lese majeste law, better known as Criminal Code Section 112, was signed by 102,528 as of 11.50 a.m. today, Thai Post newspaper said.
In their message about this campaign the Progressive Movement, of which Mr. Piyabutr Saengkanokkul is the secretary-general, said, “People have to help each other reach a consensus. Let all those affected by Section 112 know they are not fighting alone.”
Thanathorn too said, “Don’t let these people fight alone. Let’s go and sign up for #Abolish112.”
Women were urged to show their strength and turn those who do not want to abolish this law into a minority.
The Internet Dialogue on Law Reform (iLaw) mentioned that this signature campaign web page was signed by 100,556 people in 24 hours, which was very fast compared to the previous one in May this year where it took three weeks to collect 110,000 signatures, Matichon newspaper said.
This campaign was launched at a demonstration at Ratchaprasong intersection on October 31 with 3,760 people signing up. Names of both those who signed offline and online are being tallied.
