Protesters back at Din Daeng hotspot as residents stage separate rally

WITH the Thalu Gas protesters having gathered again at Din Daeng intersection from 5.30 p.m. onwards today (Sept. 16) as they have been doing for weeks now, residents of Din Daeng flats affected by their nightly confrontation with crowd-control police were to stage their own rally to voice their disagreement with this movement, Siam Rath and Thai Rath newspapers said.

From 6.30 p.m. onwards some of  the adolescent protesters started setting off firecrackers and  ping-pong bombs periodically at this intersection which is barely a kilometre from the First Infantry Regiment barracks at houses Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s residence.

At 7.20 p.m. some of the protesters rode their motorcycles to see the situation at the Royal Thai Army Band Department on the outbound side of Vibhavadi Rangsit road where the crowd-control police are based but overall the situation remained calm.

Some Din Daeng flat residents were to gather at an area separate from that frequented by protesters in Soi Mitmaitri 2 where the Din Daeng district office is located to voice their disagreement with this group’s movement.
