Protesters and police clash at 2 points in Din Daeng area

THE adolescent Thalu Gas protesters gathered again at Din Daeng intersection this evening (Sept. 11) and after letting off firecrackers, throwing ping-pong bomb and setting tires and debris on fire both at this intersection and on the outbound side of Vibhavadi Rangsit road later clashed with police at two nearby points, Matichon newspaper said.

While there was no confrontation earlier in the evening, the protesters later clashed with crowd-control police at Royal Thai Army Band Department, which is nearby the First Infantry Regiment barracks that houses Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s residence on the outbound side of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, and at the Din Daeng district office in Soi Mitmaitri 2 on the inbound side.

After the youths used slingshots to fire glass marbles and set off firecrackers, including giant ones, at the police line at this department, at 7.30 p.m. police retaliated with rubber bullets and tear gas leading to these protesters withdrawing from this point at 8 p.m.

However clashes between protesters and police in Soi Mitmaitri 2 continued after 8 p.m with police here firing tear gas and from the overpass shining high-powered lasers through the clouds of tear gas to create confusion.

At 8.15 p.m. police announced a warning to the protesters to stop hurling firecrackers and ping-pong bombs at them or they will take legal action but this did not deter these adolescents who let off more firecrackers while police too fired more tear gas.
