Street protesters urge PM to quit in 14 days

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

ANTI-GOVERNMENT PROTESTERS today (July 10) continued to press Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to step down in 14 days’ time on allegations that he has obviously failed to effectively contain the Covid-19 pandemic throughout the country.

Political activist Sombat Boonngam-anong, leader of the ”car mob” protesters, called on Prayut to resign within 14 days from today accusing him of obviously mishandling the pandemic situation, resulting in an inadequacy of coronavirus vaccines and highly increased numbers of cases and fatalities.

”We’re afraid of the Covid, but we have to come out to urge Prayut who is now in coma to go away in 14 days,” Sombat told the cheering protesters from a loudspeaker on top of a pickup truck on Sukhumvit Road.

Hundreds of sedans, pickup trucks and motorcycles joined a procession of the ”car mob” protest, starting from Rajadamnern Avenue area to the headquarters of major coalition parties, namely the Democrat Party in Samsen area, the Bhumjaithai Party in Bang Khen area and the Palang Pracharath Party in Ratchadaphisek Road area.

People on both sides of the roads came out to watch the procession with some giving the three-finger salute and others shouting in support of the protesters.

It took the ”car mob” procession just over three hours to complete the latest street protest with Sombat vowing to repeat it in near future and not only in Bangkok but elsewhere throughout the country.

Joining the anti-Prayut protest were members of the Thais Do Not Tolerate activist group whose leader Jatuporn Prompan is currently behind bars over a sustained libel lawsuit.
