POLICE have arrested 22 protesters from last evening’s confrontation during a protest march from the Victory Monument to 1st Infantry Regiment compound where Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s residence is located, INN News and Sanook.com said this morning (1. 3.2021).
Meanwhile the Erawan Centre announced that one policeman had died during last night’s melee with 33 people being injured, of them 23 were police officers and 10 members of the public.
Admitted to the Police Hospital were 22 of those who got injured, with two being transferred from the Veterans Hospital, seven were sent to Ratchawithi Hospital where the police officer died, two to Ramathibodi Hospital, and one each to Rama IX and Chulalongkorn hospitals.
It was Pol Lt Col Wiwat from Thammasala police station who died after suffering from a cardiac arrest while performing crowd control duties. Doctor at Ratchawithi Hospital tried to save his life by performing CPR but failed to do so.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Piya Tawichai, deputy chief and spokesman of Metropolitan Police, said the 22 suspects are being held at Border Patrol Police Division 1 complex.
They are being charged with violating the emergency decree and the Disease Control Act as well as damaging property with the prosecution to file separate cases for these charges.
