Pro-monarchy group files complaint against protesters

A PRO-MONARCHY vocational students group today (Jan. 19) submitted a letter to police calling for action against demonstrators who had staged a rally on January 15 at Klong Luang police station in Pathum Thani province for violating the Flag Act of BE 2522 (1979), Siam Rath newspaper said.

In the letter addressed to Police Chief Pol. Gen. Suwat Jangyodsuk and received by Pol. Col Thavorn Meechum the group alleged that the protesters had on that day removed the national flag from the pole and in its place hoisted a red cloth that looked like a flag with the number “12” on it.

The royalist group pointed that this is an illegal action and violates Flag Act of BE 2522 (1979) with the penalty being maximum two years imprisonment or 4,000 baht fine or both.

The group also said that the protesters had sprayed messages in public areas and displayed a cloth banner that insulted officials.

The group added that the gathering took place during Covid-19 outbreak and the demonstrators had not obtained prior permission to do so nor did they follow public health measures which risked the spread of this disease therefore legal action should be taken against them on this count too.
