BMA imposing 20,000 baht fine on quarantine violators

BANGKOK Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is getting tough with people who violate quarantine order by imposing 20,000 baht fine on those found to have sneaked off to go to various places in the capital, Siam Rath newspaper reported this evening (Jan. 15, 2021).

Bangkok Governor Asawin Kwanmuang said after a meeting of BMA’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration that although the outbreak in the city is now coming under better control with new infections limited to those who had close contact with confirmed cases, quarantine violations continue to take place.

To ensure that those who have tested positive for this feared disease or are waiting for the result stay quarantined as ordered by district officials this fine will now be imposed on violators.

Pomprab district officials will be kicking off this drive by liaising with the police in imposing the fine on those caught not isolating themselves in their area of jurisdiction

However the outbreak in Bangkok has now improved to such an extent that the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration will from next week onwards be meeting twice a week and not everyday as has been happening.
