PHUKET health officials confirmed that a 40-year-old man who had ridden to Krabi last week with a female companion on the pillion to attend a two-day bikers party had contracted Covid-19 there after a close contact with another man from Samut Sakhon province, Thai Rath newspaper reported today (Dec. 22).
Dr. Thanit Sermkaew, Phuket provincial health doctor, said after a positive result of the first test yesterday, samples were sent for a confirmation test at Phuket Medical Sciences Centre and this was verified this afternoon.
The patient, who is currently being treated at Vachira Hospital Phuket, said he had ridden to Krabi with his female companion to attend a bikers party on Koh Lanta Yai during December 12 and 13.
While there he had shook hands and embraced another man from Samut Sakhon province, from where the new Covid-19 outbreak sprang, and was later informed by other partygoers that this man had got infected with coronavirus.
Upon his return he began to have fever and sore throat on December 14 but went to work at a company where he has 14 to 15 colleagues normally. However he kept his face mask on throughout. He even went out for dinner with his five-member family at a restaurant in the Ratsada sub-district.
