Police gear up to handle protest at Ratchaprasong intersection

THE Metropolitan Police is all ready to handle a demonstration at Ratchaprasong intersection from 4 p.m. onwards today (Oct. 25) and will be adhering to laws in effect during normal circumstances, Siam Rath newspaper reported.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Yingyot Thepchamnong, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, said National Police Chief Pol.Gen. Suwat Jangyodsuk ordered this police unit to take care of the rally with emphasis on the safety of the people, including the protesters, and property as well as facilitating the traffic in the surrounding area.

Although the serious emergency in the Bangkok area has now been revoked, police will be adhering to Public Assembly Act 2015, which is the law that is in effect in normal circumstances.

Despite the absence of a serious emergency protesters still need to obey the law, he said, while reminding them to be mindful of the shops and department stores that could be impacted by their gathering.
