THE FIRST night after the phase five easing of the coronavirus lockdown took effect yesterday (July 1) saw Pattaya still staying quiet and dull with big pub owners not yet daring to reopen their establishments for fear of failing to cover the cost, Sanook.com reported this morning (July 2, 2020).
However bars and karaoke lounges are steadily opening up but they too have to operate under the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) regulations.
Ms Saifon Kananyiam, overseer of Niche Group’s beer bar in Soi 6 Pattaya Beach Road, said her bar had all the coronavirus measures in place including temperature check, alcohol gel for cleaning hands, all clients having to either register or scan Thai Chana QR code and the staff are also doing PR work on Covid-19.
She added that her bar is reopening on a trial basis to see whether or not there are enough customers to stay afloat.
Violator of emergency decree rules face not more than two years in jail or maximum fine of 40,000 baht or both. Offenders could also be found guilty under Section 52 of the Communicable Disease Act 2015 which entails not more than one year in jail or maximum 100,000 baht fine or both. Or for breaching Section 41 of the Price of Goods and Services Act 1999 with the penalty being not more than seven years in jail or maximum 140,000 baht fine or both as the case may be.
