GRIM is the situation in most parts of the world where the coronavirus multiplies so rapidly that even some doctors and medical staff treating patients have died.
In Thailand today (31.3.2020), the addition of 127 cases took the total to 1,651 while the sad death of yet another patient pushed the tally of those who have succumbed to this disease to 10.
US recorded its deadliest day since the outbreak yesterday (30.3.2020) with the death toll of 540 moving up the total to over 3,000 with the number of cases rising to 163,000, ChannelNewsAsia quoted Reuters as saying.
Meanwhile Italy, which is the country hardest hit by this pandemic in terms of number of deaths, saw the tally rise to 11,591 today even as the number of new infections declined.
Making sure that there is no resurgence, the Italian government has decided to extend the nationwide lockdown measures until at least Easter season, with Easter Sunday being April 12 this year.
Hard to believe but British police came under attack by a minister for having gone a “little too far” and now turning the country into a police state as they diligently enforce the coronavirus lockdown.
Under new regulations police have the authority to immediately fine people 30 pounds for gathering in groups of more than two people or leaving their homes without good reason , but some officers have been accused of being overzealous and using drones to spy on people.
Faced with dire shortages, doctors in India have been forced to wear raincoats and motorbike helmets as they continue to fight the coronavirus outbreak.
More than a dozen doctors told Reuters that they were fearful that without proper masks and coveralls they would themselves get infected. Up to today, India has 1,251 COVID-19 cases and 32 deaths.
